GLOBAL ENCOUNTERS PROGRAM INVITES APPLICANTS

Global Encounters is an international program for adolescent Ismaili Muslim youth focused on service, leadership development, culture, and global citizenship.

Over the past five years, 560 participants from 31 countries have made lifelong friendships with their peers from around the world, collectively contributed 20,000 service hours to local schools and communities, and transformed the way they think about the world. We welcome students to join the Global Encounters family in 2017 for camps, which will be held in Kenya, India and Pakistan.

Global Encounters gives students the unique opportunity to experience pluralism, while staying on flagship campuses, including the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad, Aga Khan Academy Mombasa and Aga Khan University in Karachi. Students volunteer and lead service projects in local schools and communities, cultivate lifelong friendships with brothers and sisters from around the world, experience the AKDN’s work in action, broaden their perspectives in thought provoking and challenging courses, explore arts and culture, visit world heritage sites, and discover what it means to be a global citizen – all while having loads of fun!

Global Encounters seeks passionate and motivated youth who have a range of interests. The camp is open to Ismaili youth who will be between 15 and 17 years of age by 1st June 2017. Students should have completed their first year of secondary school and should be entering their last three years of secondary school. Staff applications are also open for young professionals who have completed university and have a passion for working with youth.

The following three camps are planned for 2017:
